NHTSA Recalls Affecting The RV Industry In June

Airstream
· Recall: 1,848 2018-2020 International, Sport, Flying Cloud, Classic, Tommy Bahama, Globetrotter, and Nest travel trailers. The forward end of the spare tire carrier may contact the ground while the trailer is moving possibly resulting in the carrier and spare tire separating from the vehicle. Dealers will install corrected spare tire carrier brackets, free of charge. Airstream customer service: 1-877-596-6505 or 1-937-596-6111, extension 7401 or 7411.
· Recall: 911 2017-2020 Basecamp trailers on which the Tire Placard lacks the trailer's spare tire information, possibly leading to installation of the wrong size spare tire, affecting the vehicle’s handling. Airstream will provide corrected labels, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin July 23, 2019. Airstream customer service: 1-877-596-6505 or 1-937-596-6111 extension 7401 or 7411.
Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA)
· Recall FL-814: 9,702 2012-2019 Freightliner Custom Chassis MT55 and MT45 vehicles. The brake pedal clevis pin clip may rub or bend on the throttle pedal and possibly detach, causing brake lights to fail. DTNA will notify the vehicle manufacturers that purchased these chassis, and DTNA dealers will inspect the clevis pin clearance and correct it as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin July 12, 2019. DTNA customer service: 1-800-547-0712.
· Recall FL-816: 253 2019 Freightliner 108SD, 114SD, Business Class M2, Cascadia, Western Star 5700, and FCCC XC Chassis vehicles equipped with air disc brakes. The brake caliper mounting bolts may have been insufficiently tightened, reducing brake efficiency. DTNA will notify the owners and affected vehicle manufacturers, and DTNA dealers will inspect and repair the vehicles, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin July 12, 2019. Entegra Coach Recall 9803435: 88 2020 Anthem and Cornerstone motorhomes. The steering shaft bolt may have been insufficiently tightened, causing the steering wheel to malfunction. Dealers will inspect the motorhome and tighten the steering shaft bolt, as necessary, free of charge. Entegra customer service: 1-800-517-9137.
Forest River
· Recall 53-0995: 37 2017-2019 Shasta Revere SHT32FE recreational trailers. The liquid propane (LP) gas line may have been improperly installed through the wheel-well, allowing the gas line to be damaged by road debris kicked up by the tires. Dealers will re-reroute the LP gas line so that road debris cannot damage it, free of charge. Forest River customer service: 1-574-825-8717.
· Recall 31-1036: 6 2020 Work and Play fifth-wheel trailers. The 12V and 110V cables for an optional generator may not be isolated from objects stored in the generator compartment, which can result in an electrical short, increasing the risk of fire. Dealers will isolate the wires in the generator compartment so that they can't short, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin July 31, 2019. Forest River customer service: 1-574-825-6302.
· Recall 68-0991: 688 2019-2020 Georgetown and FR3 motorhomes. The slim-rack slide out mechanisms may activate unintentionally, moving the slide room in or out unexpectedly, even when the vehicle is in motion. Dealers will provide a new controller and switch for the slideout mechanism, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin July 31, 2019. Forest River: 1-574-206-7600.
· Recall 110-1035: 2,114 2017-2020 Coachmen Chapparal, Chapparal Lite, Chapparal X-Lite and Shasta Phoenix recreational trailers. The outside kitchen may be equipped with a standard outlet receptacle and not a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protected outlet. Dealers will replace a standard 110V outlet in the exterior kitchen with a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) outlet. The recall is expected to begin July 31, 2019. · Recall 78-1032: 2 2017-2018 Berkshire Coach Ultra UL1912 and UL1913 motorhomes. Water and contaminants may get into the block heater cable's splice connector causing corrosion and damage, possibly resulting in a resistive short and overheated or melted wiring. Ford dealers will disable the vehicle's engine block heater cable, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin July 24, 2019. Ford customer service: 1-866-436-7332.
· Recall 64-1033: 70 2019-2020 Cherokee trailers, model CKT294BH. The Federal Placard states incorrect Cargo Carrying Capacity (CCC) and Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) information, which may result in the trailer being overloaded. Forest River has provided replacement placards that contain accurate information, free of charge. Forest River customer service: 1-541-995-3447.
· Recall 225-1003: 100 2019-2020 Coachmen Beyond, Crossfit and Galleria motorhomes equipped with ProAir air conditioning systems. The wiring for ProAir system may be undersized for the potential load and the circuit was not fuse or breaker protected. Dealers will replace the wiring and install a circuit breaker, free of charge. Jayco Recall: 23 2020 Greyhawk motorhomes. The brake relay valve may have an air flow restriction due to a partially blocked orifice, which may cause extended stopping distances. Spartan will notify Jayco owners, and Spartan dealers will inspect and replace the brake relay valve, if necessary, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Keystone RV
· Recall 19-355: 54 2020 Crossroads Cruiser fifth wheel recreational trailers, models 27MK, 29SI, 28RD, 24RL and 29RK. The furnace exhaust vent may be missing, possibly resulting in carbon monoxide buildup. Dealers will install a furnace exhaust vent if it is missing, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin July 10, 2019. Keystone customer service: 1-866-425-4369.
· Recall 19-354: 79 2019-2020 Dutchmen Voltage trailers, model 4185. An 18,000 lb.-capacity fifth wheel pin box may have been installed instead of the specified 21,000 lb-capacity pin box hitch. Dealers will install a pin box inner rated for 21,000 lbs, free of charge. Keystone customer service: 1-866-425-4369.
· Recall 19-351: 252 2018-2020 Fuzion 429 recreational trailers. The wiring harness to the power center may have been pinched between the floor framing and chassis beam, potentially damaging the wiring harness, increasing the risk of fire. Dealers will inspect and repair the wiring as needed, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin July 19, 2019. Keystone customer service: 1-866-425-4369.
Lance Camper Recall: 287 2019-2020 855S and 1172 Truck Campers. A large gap between the fold down bunk bed, while it is in the sleeping position, and the window near the sleeping area may cause an occupant to fall and get stuck in the gap. Newmar Corporation
· Recall FL-816 and 19V-367: 3 2019 Mountain Aire and Essex motorhomes built on Freightliner XC chassis equipped with air disc brakes. Newell Coach Recall: 78 2017-2020 P50 motorcoaches. The passenger side windshield wiper arm linkage may be too short, possibly causing the wiper to malfunction and rotate in a downward position, reducing visibility. Dealers will inspect and replace the wiper linkage with one that has been properly aligned, free of charge. Newell customer service: 1-888-363-9355.
Spartan Motors USA Recall 19012: 92 2018-2019 Gladiator, MetroStar, K2, K3, and K4 emergency response chassis cabs and motorhome chassis. The brake relay valve may have an air flow restriction, which may result in an extended stopping distance. Spartan will notify the vehicle manufacturers that purchased the affected chassis, and Spartan dealers will inspect and replace the valves, as necessary, free of charge. Thor Motor Coach (TMC) Recall RC000169: 81 2019-2020 Magnitude, Omni motorhomes, models BB35 and BH35. Wires located in the electrical junction box may move around and contact an extra screw that was erroneously installed, increasing the risk of a short circuit and fire. Dealers will inspect the junction box, remove the extra screw, and repair any damaged wiring, as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin August 5, 2019. Trail King Recall TK201902: 43 2016-2019 custom TKT50 trailers. The air control line to the front Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) electronic control unit for the trailer brakes may be missing. Trail King will add a front control line, free of charge. Trail King customer service: 1-800-843-3324.
General Motors Recall N192218960: 1,159 2016-2019 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vans. One or both of the rear-quarter windows may be tempered glass instead of laminated glass, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a side impact or rollover crash. Dealers will replace the tempered glass windows with laminated glass windows, as necessary, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Tow Vehicle Recalls
LGE Coachworks Recall: 13 2018-2019 Ford E-450, F-550, and Freightliner M2-based vehicles equipped with ASA Electronics Voyager back-up camera displays. The displays may unexpectedly revert back to the factory default settings which may cause the camera image to be reversed. Dealers will replace the displays, free of charge. Ford Motor Company Recall 19S19: 107,857 2013 F-150 vehicles equipped with 5.0L or 6.2L gasoline engines, that previously had the powertrain control module (PCM) software reprogrammed under recall 19V-075. The software used to reprogram the PCM did not have the necessary updates to prevent the transmission from unexpectedly downshifting into first gear, regardless of vehicle speed. Dealers will reprogram the powertrain control module, free of charge. Ford customer service: 1-866-436-7332.
ATV and Off-Road Recalls
Yamaha Recall: 1,500 Yamaha Grizzly ATVs and Wolverine X2 Side-by-Side Vehicles (ROV). Purchasers were given a defective owner’s manual which shows the correct model on the cover, but the contents are for another model. Yamaha will replace with a manual containing the correct information.
American Honda Recall: 82,000 2016-2019 Model Year Honda Pioneer 1000 5P. The throttle pedal can stick in the open position, posing crash and injury hazards. Dealers will repair the throttle.
Other Equipment
Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. Recall 172: 24,459 size 235/65R18 Cooper Discoverer SRX, Evolution H/T, Discoverer HTP, Adventurer H/T CUV, Big O Big Foot A/S, Les Schwab Back Country QS3 Touring HT, and Mastercraft Courser HSX Tour tires. The tires may have been improperly manufactured with a ply cord distortion that may cause the lower sidewall components to separate. Amazon Recall: 377,000 AmazonBasics 1500 Watt Ceramic Space Heaters. The heater can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards. Owners can return the heaters for a refund.
