NHTSA Recalls Affecting The RV Industry In August

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported several recalls affecting recreational vehicles and towables, as well as a recall affecting gas powered golf carts. Daimler Vans USA
Recall VS3HELI: 8,243 2019 Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner Sprinter 1500, 2500, 3500, and 4500 vehicles. The tail lights may dim or switch off if the manual turn-switch is turned quickly. Mercedes-Benz or Freightliner Sprinter dealers will update the body control unit software, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin September 20, 2019. MBUSA customer service: 1-800-367-6372.
Recall VS2BAFV: 2 2019 Mercedes-Benz Metris vehicles delivered with a printed operator's manual that does not match the vehicle's features and operating instructions. Dealers will replace the information package including the printed version of the operator's manual, maintenance booklet and information sheets, free of charge. Forest River
Recall 51-1065: 1,809 2019-2020 Flagstaff and Cherokee Arctic Wolf recreational trailers equipped with MORryde Orbital or You Turn Rubber Pin Box Wedge Kits. The pin boxes may have been mounted with 1-3/4" bolts instead of 2" long bolts. Dealers will inspect the bolts and replace them as necessary, free of charge. Recall 410-1071: 39 2020 Columbus Fifthwheel Trailers. The rear ladder blocks the exit window on the rear wall, preventing the use of the window. Dealers will install a new egress window, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin September 18, 2019. Forest River customer service: 1-574-821-1487.
Gulf Stream Coach
Recall GS072619: 13 2017 Serro Scotty S14 RBR travel trailers with a Federal Placard label indicating an incorrect Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). This may result in the trailer being overloaded, affecting the tires or vehicle handling. Dealers will replace the Federal Placard label, free of charge. Gulf Stream customer service: 1-800-289-8787.
Keystone RV
Recall 19-358: 9 2020 Crossroads Cruiser 29SI, 27MK, 28RD, 24RL, and 29RK fifth-wheel trailers equipped with MORryde Rotating Pin Boxes. These pin boxes may be attached with bolts that are too short, allowing the pin box to rotate in two places rather than one. Dealers will inspect and replace the bolts, as necessary, free of charge. MMDi, Inc.
Jack Recall: 120 2019 Cummins 'G' A057P788 trailers equipped with Towking brand 12k jacks. The jack handle may have been improperly fastened, allowing the jack handle to separate from the jack assembly. MMDi will provide a nylon locking nut to replace the standard nut and specific work instructions for replacing the nut, free of charge. MMDi customer service: 1-704-822-4550.
Newmar
Bedroom Recall: 376 2018-2020 Mountain Aire, Essex, and King Aire motorhomes. The bedroom fascia header may fall unexpectedly onto the bed. Dealers will add screws and brackets to properly secure the fascia header, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin October 19, 2019. Newmar customer service: 1-800-731-8300.
REV Recreation Group
Recall 190709REV: 163 2016-2019 American Coach American Eagle and 2016 American Heritage motorhomes equipped with factory-installed rear air deflectors. The center mounting plate for the rear air deflector may have been installed incorrectly with screws that loosen, allowing the air deflector to detach from the vehicle. Dealers will properly secure the rear air deflector to the fiberglass cap with rivets, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin September 10, 2019. REV customer service: 1-800-509-3417.
Thor Motor Coach
Recall RC000171: 181 2019-2020 Omni and Magnitude motorhomes. The battery tray may be improperly welded to the chassis frame, allowing the battery tray to detach from the chassis, discharging the battery and causing the vehicle to stall. Tiffin Motorhomes
Recall TIF-112: 20 2019-2020 Allegro Open Road motorhomes equipped with Liquid Spring suspension systems. A hydraulic suspension hose may be routed incorrectly, resulting in contact between the hose and the inside rear tire, causing the tire to suddenly deflate. Dealers will inspect the hydraulic hoses for damage, correcting the clamp position if necessary and replacing damaged components, free of charge. Tiffin customer service: 1-256-356-8661.
Vanleigh RV
Suspension Recall: 1,808 2015-2019 Vilano and Beacon fifth wheel recreational trailers. The suspension shackles may be too short, causing them to fail resulting in loss of control. Winnebago Industries
Recall 159: 112 2018-2019 Fuse motorhomes built on a 2018 Ford Transit chassis and equipped with aluminum wheel feature code 63W. The wheel studs may be too long, preventing the lug nuts from properly securing the wheels. Dealers will replace the wheel studs with a shorter version, free of charge. Recall: 9,000, plus 2,000 sold in Canada, 2019 Precedent, Tempo, Onward and Villager model gas golf and transport vehicles. Under continuous operation with low speed idling periods and a full gas tank, the fuel vent can allow fuel to leak, posing a fire hazard. Return for repair. Club Car customer service: 888-227-7925.
