Featherlite Uses Yachting Systems In Motor Coaches
Inside Business Reports On Suffolk Facility Manufacturing Prevost Conversion Motor Coaches, Plus Others, In A Way That Goes Above & Beyond Standards In The Industry.
Featherlite Coaches are an incredible sight. Of course they match the design and luxury with a hefty price but you get what you pay for. According to the Featherlite website, they are regarded as the industry leading Prevost conversion motorhome manufacturer combining the latest manufacturing techniques, with the highest quality materials, craftsmanship, advanced engineering and yacht quality fit and finish. Featherlite has operated a manufacturing facility in the Suffolk Industrial Park since 2004. That’s where the company’s motor coaches and touring bus/limousines are produced and serviced. Converted from stainless steel bus shells with a welded roll cage-style assembly made by Prevost and shipped from Quebec, the motor homes cost $1.8 to $2.4 million; specialty buses are $850,000 and up.
Sandra J Pennecke from Inside Business: The Hampton Roads Business Journal relates in her article: Company president Jimmy Adams thinks of his vehicles as a yacht on wheels. "The systems we use on our coaches are almost all out of the yachting industry, not out of the RV industry,” Adams said. “When we build these coaches we go above and beyond standard electrical codes ...we use high quality yacht systems, all lightweight marine grade plywood and epoxy to make the joints stay together over a million miles." As a NASCAR enthusiast and professional auto racer himself, Adams said he misses the competition and the equipment side of car racing, but he tells Inside Business, the coach business has been a great one in which to transition. Their goal is not to be the biggest per se, but really focus on being the best.
