The Citizen-Times Reports On WNC's Flourishing Outdoor Recreations And Its Relation To The Economy
Not only does the Outdoor Recreation industry in Western North Carolina proivde relaxation and enjoyment for locals, but it has been progressively building the economy through consumer retail spending and an increase in jobs. The outdoor business is estimated to have a bigger impact t on the economy than the gasoline and auto industries. The lands of WNC are built for numerous outdoor activities such as rock climbing, water rafting, horseback riding, and even snow boarding.
As Citizen-Time's writer Karen Chavez relays in her article: The WNC outdoor economy hums on the combination of manufacturing, services and recreation participants. "It’s more than just fun and play. It employs 7.6 million in the United States, and has been shown to improve health, increase student grades, reduce stress and improve quality of life," says the manager of market and consumer insights for the Outdoor Industry Association James Rein.
