Pierce County Herald Reports On Rhonda Schrader Who Has Joined Jo Henderson To Remove Abandoned Oil Barrels In Alaska
Rhonda Schrader, a Wisconsin native, joined the Henderson Haul project along with partner Jo Henderson in order to remove abandoned oil barrels in the Alaskan wilderness. This trip requires the use of dogsleds, camping in sub-zero temperatures, and the use of blowtorches; no glitz or glamour in sight.
As Pierce County Herald writer Mike Longaecker relates in his article: “I think it’s really important that we be good stewards to the land and clean up what our ancestors have left for us — a mess,” Schrader said. It’s a big undertaking. She said there are more than 40,000 barrels scattered across Alaska. Worse yet, they’re found in some of the most remote, inhospitable, virtually impassable locations Alaska has to offer.
