Reported Wildfires Prompt A Federal Disaster Declaration As First Responders Battle To Extinguish Blazes Consuming Several Counties In California
With the West Coast already experiencing a severe fire season, it only gets worse as at least 17 fires are burning in Northern California. The cause of the fires, the first of which started around 10 p.m. on Sunday, is still under investigation. Land is being destroyed, houses lost, people's health affected, and businesses are losing their operations. In the midst of this, it's only right that the Golden state receives federal assistance.
New York Mag writer Margaret Hartmann relays in her article: Governor Jerry Brown has declared a state of emergency for Butte, Lake, Mendocino, Napa, Nevada, Orange, Sonoma, and Yuba Counties. He pronounces, “This is really serious. It’s moving fast.” President Donald Trump approved a disaster declaration last week Tuesday for the affected California counties, Vice-President Mike Pence announced.
