Electric Campervan From Germany Coming In 2019

Website Electrive.com reports that two German companies have teamed up to produce the Iridium EV, a fully electric campervan powered by lithium iron phosphate batteries. ElektroFahrzeuge Stuttgart (EFA-S), which retrofits vehicles to be completely electric, and chassis maker WOF are both located in Baden-Wurttemberg, the heart of Germany’s car-making territory. EFA-S contributed a drivetrain and battery technology already proven in UPS trucks, and WOF contributed one of its wider commercial vehicle chassis to the e-camper. Swiss campervan manufacturer Maurer Fahrzeugbau completed the Iridium's bodywork. An integrated charger allows the vehicle to be charged anywhere, including conventional sockets.
The Iridium is projected to have a range of about 124 miles, although this should increase as EFA-S continues to develop its technology. “Iridium customers can benefit from the fact that battery capacity is rapidly increasing,” EFA-S Managing Director Bastian Beutel states in a press release. “The same vehicle can, therefore, more than double its range in the near future with the same battery weight by replacing the battery.” The Iridium EV or electric vehicle will debut at the Stuttgart CMT travel trade fair in January 2019, and will be available for sale later in the year, aimed at niche markets.
