TAUNTON, Mass. - The Taunton Daily Gazette reports on the grand re-opening of a Massasoit State Park campground called Campers Beach, which occurred last week August 24, 2018 . The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) spent $5 million restoring the campground and making a host of other improvements over the past 16 months to the 1,200-acre state park, located in East Taunton at 1361 Middleboro Ave.
Rebecca Hyman of the Taunton Daily Gazette relays in her article: "[Renovations] included installation of a state-of-the-art playground; restoration of Campers Beach; restoration of running water and electricity to the park and campgrounds; installation of lighting along the path to the campground and playground; restoration of the nature center, four comfort stations with toilets and showers and welcome station; repaving of the roads and the addition of a bike lane; and maintenance of the park’s 16 miles of trails." Of the 94 campsites, six are fully accessible â paved, flat, extra-wide, with a higher fire pit and wheelchair accessible picnic table â and 53 have water and electrical hook-ups. All sites have picnic tables, fire pits, and grills included. “The buzz is huge,” said John Singleton, the senior forest and park supervisor at Massasoit. Since word got out about the re-opening of the park’s 94 campsites after being closed for 10 years, visitors to the park have been eagerly awaiting the big day, said Singleton.
