Bedrock City In Arizona Makes Way For Birds Of Prey

The AZ Central website reports that Bedrock City, a roadside attraction based on the animated Flintstones cartoon series, has closed. A favorite with families for more than 50 years, the property on AZ 64 in Valle, about 25 miles south of the Grand Canyon, was known for its pastel-hued buildings built of carved blocks of "stone" and adjacent RV park. Since the 1970s, generations of children have watched the cartoon on an unending loop in the Bedrock theater and enjoyed sliding down the tail of a brontosaurus.
The 30-acre property has been bought by partners Troy Morris and Ron Brown who are renovating the RV park, diner and gift shop for this summer’s travel season. By 2020, they hope to open Raptor Ranch, with habitats housing eagles, falcons, hawks and other birds of prey along with daily shows featuring the birds' hunting prowess. Morris told AZ Central that visitors will still be able to slide down the brontosaurus tail and see the statues of the saber-tooth cat and woolly mammoth as part of a children's playground.
"I understand people's emotional attachment, but it's time in a business sense for something new," Morris told AZ Central. "But we're definitely going to keep a little piece of Bedrock." For more details and additional pictures, read the story on the AZ Central website.
