ADN Reports On Cyclist Lael Wilcox And Her Mentorship Program Anchorage GRIT Encouraging Community And Confidence Through Biking
Alaska cyclist Lael Wilcox leads a life of adventure as she travels the world with her bike and her boyfriend. She fell in love with bicycle touring shortly after meeting her soulmate, Nicholas Carman. Adventure cycling makes her joyful and always puts her in a positive mood. In order to share her happiness with the community, she began a mentorship program called Anchorage GRIT (Girls Riding Into Tomorrow) to encourage bike safety for young girls and the exploring of Anchorage's myriad trails.
ADN writer Doyle Woody relays in his article: "The idea for GRIT stems from that kindness. Lael and Rodriguez wanted to expose girls to the freedom and joy, and the confidence, that they get from biking." One young girl who joined the porogram finds it to be rewarding. Amei Gove said about GRIT, "It sounded like a unique experience, and it felt like something new and exciting."
