All Fires Banned In Rocky Mountain National Park
Editor's Note: This news item was retrieved and first published through NPS's website.
Due to extreme drought and high threat of wildfires, Rocky Mountain National Park has enacted Stage 2 fire restrictions, which forbid all fires within the park, until further notice. This includes all campfires, including charcoal briquette fires, although petroleum fueled stoves and grills which have an on/off switch will be permitted in developed campgrounds, picnic areas and in designated backcountry campsites. Smoking will be allowed only inside vehicles and in paved areas devoid of vegetation. Fireworks are always prohibited.
This is the first time Stage 2 fire restrictions have been enacted in the park since June of 2012. Rocky Mountain National Park always has Stage 1 fire restrictions in place, prohibiting campfires except within designated campfire rings in picnic areas and front-country campgrounds.
