SYRACUSE, Ind. - The Goshen News reports on the challenges facing Dustin Johns, president of RV maker Travel Lite, which recently moved its headquarters to Syracuse from New Paris, Ind. Johns has been named in a lawsuit alleging fraud in a $4 million real estate transaction last year. The lawsuit claims that Johns agreed to purchase three parcels of property, including a house and more than four acres of commercial land, paying for the property with a combination of cash and shares in Travel Lite. The former property owner, Michael DeWitt, alleges Johns misrepresented the value of the stock.
Production is currently paused at the Travel Lite production facilities as management re-evaluates its business plan. Johns told the Goshen News that the company’s $5.2 million expansion came just as the industry entered a downturn, making cuts in production and staff necessary. Johns said that production could resume as soon as Oct. 21, with about 70 fewer employees. Going forward, the company will focus production on its lines of truck campers and ultralight travel trailers.
