The Michigan Department of Natural Resources announced that the Tin Can Tourists will participate in several events honoring the 100th anniversary of the state park system. The vintage campers and trailers will gather at three state parks this summer. June 8, models from the 1930s to the '80s will explore the history of camping at the Centennial Vintage Camping Open House at Hoffmaster State Park, Muskegon. On June 22, Tin Can Tourists Centennial Caravan, including a rare 1936 Curtis Aero Car, will visit Interlochen State Park in Interlochen. On July 27, more than 100 vintage trailers will be on display at the Centennial Vintage Camper Show at Port Crescent State Park, Port Austin. Visitors are welcome at all the events. A Michigan Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry into Michigan state parks.
The Tin Can Tourists, an organization committed to the preservation of classic trailers and motor coaches, is celebrating its centennial as well. The group formed in Tampa, Florida in 1919, and the group traveled to Michigan parks during the summer. Today, the Tin Can Tourists holds regional rallies and events throughout the U.S. and Canada. Membership is open to all makes and models of vintage trailers and motor coaches.
