NHTSA Recalls Reported In August - Part I

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports a wide range of recalls currently underway affecting recreational vehicles and towables built by several manufacturers, including Keystone, Forest River, Jayco, Entegra, KZRV, Newmar, Heartland, Daimler Vans, TowBlazer and Trail King. Recalls also include a massive recall of over a million Chrysler pickups, popular as a tow vehicle, and large numbers of Brawn and Chrysler companion vans. Owners who believe they may be affected by these recalls or other issues may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to Safercar.gov. Chrysler Recall U74: 1,149,237 2015-2017 RAM 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickup trucks with a power locking tailgate and either a 5’7” or 6’4” bed. The tailgate actuator limiter tab may fracture and cause the tailgate to unlatch and open while driving. Dealers will repair the vehicle, free of charge. The recall begins September 14, 2018. Keystone RV Recall 18-328: 344 2019 Keystone Summerland recreational trailers, models 1800BH, 1760BH, 1750RD, with single propane bottle brackets. The two mounting legs may break at the mounting point. Dealers will replace the existing LP bottle ring mounting bracket with a 3-legged bracket, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin September 23, 2018. Keystone customer service: 1-866-425-4369.
Keystone RV Recall 18-324: 20 2019 Keystone Summerland recreational trailers, model 2020QB, have Federal Identification Labels which indicate an incorrect tire rim size of 15X6, instead of the correct rim size of 15X5. Dealers will replace the incorrect label with a corrected label, free of charge. Keystone customer service: 1-866-425-4369.
Keystone RV Recall 18-325: 80 2018-2019 Dutchmen Aerolite recreational trailers, models 2133RB and 2423BH, have incorrect Federal Certification Labels that indicate a rim size of 14X5.5J when the correct rim size is 14X5J. Dealers will replace the Federal Certification Label, free of charge.
Keystone Recall 18-326: 126 2018-2019 Dutchmen Aerolite trailers. The trailers’ safety chains are rated at 7,600lbs however the vehicles’ gross weight is 9,680lbs, creating the possibility of the trailer detaching during towing. Dealers will replace the chains with 11,700-lb. rated chains, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin September 2, 2018. Keystone customer service: 1-866-425-4369.
Forest River Recall 44-0762: 326 2016-2018 Forest River Wildwood, and 2016-2019 Forest River Salem recreational trailers, on which the outside auxiliary shower faucet cover may cover the water heater exhaust panel when opened. Dealers will install a replacement outside shower, free of charge. Forest River customer service: 1-574-534-3167.
Forest River Recall 51-0781: 43 2016 Forest River Forester, 2014-2016 Forest River Sunseeker and Coachmen Leprechaun, 2014 Coachmen Concord, and 2014-2017 Coachmen Freelander vehicles, built on a Chevrolet chassis and equipped with power windows. Liquid may leak into the driver's power window switch and cause corrosion, resulting in high electrical resistance and the possibility of fire. Chevrolet dealers will replace the driver side window switch, free of charge. Forest River Recall 17D-0805: 157 2019 Forest River Cherokee Wolf Pup recreational trailers, which have single propane bottle brackets with two mounting legs that may break at the mounting point. Dealers will replace the LP bottle ring bracket, free of charge. Forest River customer service: 1-260-499-2100.
Forest River Recall 10-0786: 164 2018-2019 Forest River Rockwood and Flagstaff trailers. The inner wheel bearings may seize, causing the trailer wheels to lock-up. Dealers will replace the inner wheel bearings, free of charge. Forest River customer service: 1-574-642-4053.
Forest River Recall 48-0801: 7 2019 Prime Time Crusader fifth-wheel recreational trailers, model CSF315RST. The Federal Placard on these vehicles indicates that the axles have a weight capacity of 6,000lbs, instead of the actual capacity of 5,100lbs. Forest River will provide replacement Federal Placards, free of charge. Forest River customer service: 1-574-862-1025.
Forest River Recall 400-0783: 34 2019 Forest River Palomino hardside truck campers. The Federal Placard incorrectly states the camper's dry weight as 1,591lbs, instead of the correct dry weight of 2,405lbs, possibly resulting in the vehicle being overloaded with reduced handling performance. Dealers will provide a corrected placard, free of charge. Palomino customer service: 1-269-432-3246.
