News Blip: Solar Panels Are Win-Win For California RV Park
Lodi News-Sentinel Reports On The 180 Sites At Flag City RV Park Receiving Solar Power In Order To Both Absorb Energy Costs & Go Green
One RV resort in California consciously decided to take steps toward lessening their energy footprint. Flag City RV Resort, located in Lodi, near Interstate 5, installed over 1,000 solar panels on the property to make the resort more environmentally friendly, according to co-owner Ricky Gill. RV living may be a better alternative to for energy consumption to that of a house, and full time RV living eventually racks up a substantial amount of consumption considering the amount of RVers on the road. Gill is quoted saying: “Very few resorts have gone solar to the extent that we have. We view this as an instance of us leading the way in terms of going green." The investment o do so is beneficial on both ends for the Lodi RV resort. First, it will help reduce the resort’s energy bill; and second, it helps protect the environment.
John Bays, a writer for Lodi News-Sentinel, relates in his article: "Nuance Energy installed exactly 1,518 solar panels on the 18-acre RV resort earlier this year to generate 530 kilowatts of energy per hour, according to Flag City Manager Bobette Dowling." With this year being the park's busiest year to date, a move like this implies continued growth as the more visitors the park receives the more money they will save with these solar panels. Flag City is also considering adding more recycling bins, and dedicating areas of the resort to green waste and recycling in an effort to become even more environmentally friendly, Dowling said.
