News Blip: How The Super Bugger Came About
CBC News Reports On A Unique Volkswagen Beetle Converted RV That Is Made Up Of A Classic Car And A Camper That Now Resides In Alberta
A head-turner on the road, the Super Bugger is an exquisite machine. The Volkswagen Beetle and camper mix was first bought by Rimbey resident Don Speer in Arizona. It endured more than 400 hours of repairs and touch ups over the past 20 years to keep it running on the road. Soon, the Bugger would change ownership to a couple in Alberta, Canada. In addition, more models were designed over the years.
CBC News writer John Robertson relates in his article: "The nose of the Volkswagen Beetle holds the spare tire. The engine is in the back. The two bucket seats swivel, though you might have to remove the steering wheel to get the driver's side to turn. Above the engine is the kitchen table, which can be adjusted to make a bed. To use the sink and stove, you have to sit at the table. There is no refrigerator but the ice box, made of polished metal, doubles as mirror." It is time for the Super Bugger to change owners again as the current owners, the Spelrems, are planning to sell it.
