The Kimberley Bulletin reports that the City of Kimberley in British Columbia plans to sell two city assets, the Riverside Campground and the Bootleg Gap Golf Course. The Riverside Campground, situated along the St. Mary River, has 130 trailer/tent sites. Bootleg Gap is a 27 hole course built in 2003, managed by the Bootleg Gap Golf Society. City officials say both businesses are profitable. Current market appraisals value the campground at $2 million and Bootleg Gap at $3.55 million.Don McCormick, the mayor of Kimberley, responded to residents’ concerns that new owners would not continue to operate Riverside as a campground. “The City is issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) that spells out the expected terms of the sale – including a requirement to keep it a campground,” McCormick said. “The RFP will be asking for details on why the proponent is purchasing, their experience with campgrounds and what the plans are going forward.” The mayor said the money from the sales is needed for infrastructure in the town, including a new sewage plant. The RTP will be issued in November, with the city council considering offers in December.
