News Blip: Comeback of the floating RV?
USA Today Reports On The Amphibious Terra Wind Motorhome, A Vehicle For Cruising Both The Land And Water
Isn't it a fantasy for everyone to just be able to drive directly into a body of water sometimes? A car and boat in one! This invention is nothing new, however, what is holding back people from owning this. Cool Amphibious Manufacturers International of Ridgeland, S.C., created the amphibious RV about a decade ago but needs more sales. Owner John Giljam said he has had some interest from potential buyers now that the economy is strong. At $850,000 for a Terra Wind, buyers haven't exactly lined up.
Dwight Adams from the Indianapolis Star relates in his article: "The 32,000-pound behemoth, fully loaded, shifts its power from the wheels to a pair of 19-inch bronze propellers when it takes to water. The Terra Wind is meant for fresh water — quiet lakes and streams — not the ocean. For extra stability, there's a pair of pontoons on either side." This RV looks like tremendous fun, however, perhaps when the price point is more affordable for the average consumer, it will be seen on lakes across the country.
