News Blip: Catalina Island Expands Its Hiking Trails
Daily Breeze Reports On Nearly 27 Miles Of New Trails Now Open On Catalina Island In An Effort To Promote Conservation
California's Catalina Island is a beautiful get-away for anyone to enjoy the great outdoors. Plans to preserve outdoor recreation of the island are currently in progress. Imagine Catalina is a multi-decade project to preserve the island and promote conservation among visitors. As part of this initiative, people can explore 27 miles of new trekking territory on the island thanks to the implementation of a newly opened series of trails.
Cynthia Washicko of The Daily Breeze relays in her article: "Offering visitors new incentives to leave Catalina’s city hubs to explore the back country fits nicely into that plan, said Suzy Gardner, chief development officer for the Catalina Island Conservancy." Trekking Catalina, as the trail expansion was titled, originally was scheduled to finish this summer, but torrential rains earlier this year set back the finish date by several months.
