KALW Reports On Bay Area Outreach and Recreation Program That Is Taking Individuals With Disabilities On Outdoor Adventures
The Bay Area Outreach and Recreation Program in California is changing the way individuals with disabilities experience the outdoors by making it accessible and comfortable for them. This outdoor adventure group called Adventures and Outings is led by Lori Gray and takes members hiking, camping, and much more.
As KALW writer Claire Stremple relates in her article: Program leader Lori Gray worked for years as a river guide before taking on her role at Adventures and Outings. She brings serious outdoor chops to the table, and is uniquely qualified for her position. “I represent a physical impairment reality and a visual impairment reality, so the participants kind of look at me as their litmus test. If it works for me, it will work for them,” she says.
