New Oregon Legislation Eases Regulations On RVs And Park Models

RVIA announced that Oregon has enacted a new bill that eliminates the state’s Department of Consumer and Business Services regulation of the manufacturing of RVs, a situation that prevails in most states. Previously, an additional Oregon insignia of compliance or seal was required on stating that the RV complied with state building regulations. Park model RVs (PMRV), yurts and other structures intended for recreational and seasonal use are also covered by this legislation. Oregon PMRV manufacturers will no longer be required to use licensed plumbers and electricians to make installations and repairs, since they already must comply with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Park Model Recreational Vehicle Standard.
A second bill passed by the Oregon legislature, expected to be signed by Oregon Governor Kate Brown soon, defines RVs and PMRVs as vehicles and places them under the regulation of the Oregon Department of Transportation. The RVIA supported both pieces of legislation, in line with its policy of defining park models as RVs for the purposes of registration and siting in RV parks or campgrounds for seasonal use.
