New NPS Publications Encourage Kids To Get Outdoors

WASHINGTON -- This summer, the National Park Service (NPS) teams with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to distribute the new Junior Ranger “Let’s Go Fishing!” activity booklet. Free and downloadable from the NPS website, the booklet hopes to inspire future anglers to get out and enjoy the American pastime of fishing. Families can also pick up a free print version of the booklet at more than 500 national parks, national wildlife refuges, and national fish hatcheries that offer fishing. After completing the activities in the booklet, kids will be sworn in as Junior Ranger Anglers and receive a National Park Service or U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service junior ranger badge.
The Junior Ranger Angler program is one of more than 300 Junior Ranger programs sponsored by the Department of the Interior. Kids also now have their own version of the popular national park passport book, designed encourage participation in Junior Ranger programs across the country. The Passport To Your National Parks Junior Ranger Edition, intended for children ages 6-12, features pages to collect official park cancellations indicating the name and date of a park visit as well as park-themed stickers and specially designed Junior Ranger cancellations.
