SFStation.com reports that Candlestick Point State Recreation Area has opened six new campsites at its Sunrise Point Campground on the western shores of San Francisco Bay. Aimed at outdoor enthusiasts, the new sites can only be reached by foot, by bike or by non-motorized boat, via the San Francisco Bay Trail and the San Francisco Bay Water Trail, but the location provides excellent opportunities for windsurfing, fishing, bird watching and hiking.
The campground offers running water, BBQ grills, bathroom with flush toilets and footlockers to secure belongings, but no electricity, lighting or showers. Fishing piers and picnic areas are nearby; bonfires and pets aren’t allowed. Intended to provide a getaway from city life, the campground also offers wonderful views of San Francisco Bay, the East Bay Hills, and San Bruno Mountain. Campsites, which can accommodate up to four people, rent for $35 per night. The maximum stay is two nights.
