According to the Associated Press, a dormant 3 year Yellowstone geyser has recently erupted back to life. It was reported that on April 28, the activity was detected. Ledge Geyser is the second-largest geyser in Norris Geyser Basin, after Steamboat. What it lacks in size, however, Ledge makes up for in sound. “It’s really a fun one because it’s really loud,” said Jeff Hungerford, park geologist.
The Billings Gazette also reports that "Yellowstone has more than 10,000 thermal features and 500 geysers, more than anywhere else on Earth. Some geysers such as Old Faithful are predictable but most, like Ledge Geyser, erupt erratically." the geyser shoots hot water at an angle up to 125 feet (38 meters) high and a distance of 220 feet (67 meters). According to Yellowstone National park’s website, Ledge is capable of shooting water 125 feet into the air.
