The Homer/Baycrest KOA Campground in Alaska wins the 2020 Kampgrounds of America President’s Award and KOA Founder’s Award, presented on Nov. 11 at KOA’s Annual International Convention in Savannah, Georgia. This comes after several years of remodeling and upgrades.Homer News writer Michael Armstrong relays in his article, "Owned by Shelly and Jeff Erickson, the Homer couple converted the former Baycrest RV Park into a KOA Holiday Campground in the fall of 2017." The Homer/Baycrest KOA Holiday Campground won the 2020 awards based on KOA surveys of thousands of campers. According to a KOA press release Armstrong quotes: “The KOA Founder’s Award, named in honor of Dave Drum, who founded KOA on the banks of the Yellowstone River in Billings, Montana in 1962, is KOA’s highest service award. The KOA President’s Award is presented to those campgrounds meeting exceptional quality standards and who receive high customer service scores from their camping guests.”
