What lasts better than memories? Not much. The "experience economy" is booming with business like paddleboard classes, escape rooms with real life puzzles, make-your-own pottery and painting, and social events for creative entertainment popping up in Virginia. Roanoke has a number of local businesses assisting the economy while also getting people outdoors for an experience they can share with their grandchildren.

Roanoke Times writer Tiffany Holland relates in her article: "More and more businesses have focused on offering experiences for sale as opposed to merchandise to take home." For example, Pam Golden started Glazed Bisque-It in Roanoke County. This is a make-your-own pottery and painting studio that is not new to the experience trend. Learning a new skill is also a popular facet of the experience trend. A focus of locally owned Roanoke Mountain Adventures is its guided trips, instructional classes and rental services for the Roanoke outdoors.
