GOSHEN, Ind. - According to the Goshen News and other news sources, Forest River’s newest division, East To West, Inc., will make major changes in the standard RV manufacturing process by using simplified designs for RVs and limiting the amount of customization available, which is expected to streamline assembly and reduce costs. Members of the Elkhart County Council, which approved a 5-year tax phase-in agreement for the company, are referring to the changes as a “watershed event.”
According to the news report, Mark Dobson, president of the Economic Development Corp. of Elkhart County, said, “This represents kind of a new way to do things. It’s simplification of the manufacturing process, simplification of the floor plans, especially at an entry level, which should result in a higher quality recreational vehicle and cut down on the flaws as they come out of the factory.” The new manufacturing plant, located northwest of Elkhart, is expected to bring 325 new full-time jobs to the region, with the possibility of twice that number in the future.
