MISSOULA, Mont. - The Montana High Tech Business Alliance has named Kampgrounds of America (KOA) as one of the state’s top tech employers. The list was based on criteria that include employment of 20 or more Montanans with plans to grow its in-state workforce, a consistent hiring record, a presence in Montana for more than 10 years, and involvement with the community.
KOA was founded in Billings, MT, in 1962 by local entrepreneur Dave Drum, growing in the years since to become the world’s largest network of campgrounds. Currently KOA has more than 500 family camping franchises in the United States and Canada, including 18 campgrounds in Montana itself. Approximately 75 people are employed at KOA’s home office in Billings, including a technology department responsible for developing and maintaining KampSight, KOA’s proprietary campground operations and reservations software, as well other technologies to improve park operations.
KOA President Toby O’Rourke told the High Tech Alliance that the company emphasizes family and healthy living by offering premium benefits including paid maternity/paternity leave and reimbursements for camping and other health-oriented activities.
