BERKELEY SPRINGS, W. Va. â The Journal, a news outlet based in Martinsville, WV, reports that construction has begun on a $25 million+ project at Cacapon Resort State Park. The renovation and expansion plans call for a large addition to the main lodge with 78 new guest rooms, a new public dining room, expanded kitchen and conference facilities, plus a new indoor pool, spa, elevators and expanded outdoor recreation and parking areas. Improvements to the existing lodge will include remodeling of existing guest rooms, lobby renovations and utility, fire, HVAC, water and electrical system upgrades. Paramount Builders of Saint Albans began work in October and construction is expected to be completed by 2020.
One of West Virginia’s oldest state parks, Cacapon takes its name from a Shawnee word meaning “medicine waters.” Both Cacapon and nearby Berkeley Springs State Park have attracted visitors to their warm mineral springs since Colonial times. “I want to thank Governor Justice and the Legislature for their determination to modernize and improve our state parks. The governor said we have got to get tourism to be an economic driver. Under his direction over the next two years, we will be investing $100 million in West Virginia State Parks,” said Stephen McDaniel, director of the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources, in a press release.
