Lake Tahoe is becoming a hot new desalination thanks to its latest hiking trail. Tahoe East Shore Trail is more than a scenic stroll or pleasant bike ride. The trail, which opens to the public on Friday afternoon, gives people a chance to immerse themselves into a piece of the Lake Tahoe landscape that was previously difficult and dangerous to access. Nevada's Highway 28 has been known for incredible views but dangerous driving conditions. The $40.5 million highway project aims to save the views and make people feel more safe about heading on the trail.
According to an article by Benjamin Spillman of the Reno Gazette Journal, CEO of the Tahoe Fund Amy Berry says, "It gives you a viewpoint you’ve never had before,” said Berry, CEO of the Tahoe Fund, which raised more than $1 million from more than 550 private donors for construction." The trail, underpass and new parking cost about $21.5 million of the $40.5 million, with the remainder going toward stormwater runoff reduction and safety improvements along the highway. The trail stretches approximately three miles from Tunnel Creek Café in Incline Village to Sand Harbor in Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park.
