The Omaha World-Herald reports that Glenn Cunningham Lake, a popular park and campground in northwest Omaha, Nebraska, will remain closed for the 2019 season as renovations and upgrades take place. The $15 million project includes 42 new RV pads as well as upgrades to the park’s existing 41 RV sites; a new restroom/shower house; and water, sewer and electrical hookups at each campsite. Ten miles of new trails will include a 6-mile concrete multipurpose trail around the lake and a 4-mile grass equestrian and nature trail. Plans call for the new lake trail to connect with the city’s Keystone Trail.
As part of the project, Lake Cunningham is being drained to kill two invasive species in the lake â the zebra mussel and common carp. City officials expect the project to be completed in about 18 months and say the park should reopen in fall, 2020.
