Major League Triathlon (MLT) is the first and only professional triathlon league in the United States. Having had two successful seasons, the big race is back for the third year and will ale place in Atlantic City, NJ on Saturday, July 21, 2018. The triathlon will once again consist of 32 of the best professional triathletes in the world. Each athlete will swim 300 meters in the Atlantic Ocean, bike 4 miles and run 1 mile on the historic Boardwalk. This triathlon is unique because it’s short and fast paced, which engages and excites spectators. Announced in June of 2017, this format of racing, known as “Mixed Team Relay,” will make its debut as an Olympic event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Spectators will get a front row seat to some of the best triathletes in the world engaging in the most popular outdoor activities, many of whom will compete in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The best male and female athletes in the world compete against each other in a unique swim, bike and run team event. Held in major cities across the country, MLT pros compete in pop-up stadiums, allowing for a spectator experience unlike anything before seen in the sport. Major League Triathlon is more than just a race, it’s a show. “We are incredibly excited to continue working with the Atlantic City Sports Commission. This was by far the most unique and exciting venue in our lineup last season and our athletes are eager to return. It isn’t often that you see 32 of the world’s best professional athletes biking and running on the iconic Atlantic City Boardwalk in the heart of summer,” stated Daniel Cassidy, Chief Executive Officer, Major League Triathlon. During the outdoor activities in AC, the Atlantic City Waves, Atlantic City’s own professional triathlon team, will play host to seven additional MLT professional teams. While the Waves finished in last place in the 2017 season, the team is eager to prove themselves in 2018. The teams will once again face off in a super sprint mixed relay format, as described above. Each athlete will complete a quick swim, bike and run and then tag their next teammate in line. The first team to have all four athletes cross the finish line will win. Major League Triathlon goes beyond racing and is the ultimate experience. This event is free and open to the general public. To add to the excitement, Major League Triathlon will be hosting an expo, ancillary events and an outdoor after party following the professional race where fans can meet the MLT pros and enjoy music, food, beer and more.
For additional information keep posted to the MLT website in the upcoming months.
