ClickOn Detroit Reports On How You Can Reserve Free Camping Sites At Certain Michigan State Parks & Recreation Areas By Giving Back Next Summer
The Michigan DNR is looking for volunteer hosts to work at Michigan state parks, recreation areas and rustic state forest campgrounds next summer. In exchange for 30 hours of service per week, volunteers' camping fees will be waived. Volunteers must be able to work at least five days a week, including weekends and holidays, and they can have free access to camping spots in Michigan! Duties include helping campers find their campsites, answering campers' questions, planning campground activities and performing light park maintenance duties.
Amber Ainsworth of ClickOn Detroit relays in her article: "Volunteers will be interviewed by park managers and selected based on familiarity with the state park system, camping experience, special skills, availability and knowledge of the area. Hosts must participate in a training session within the first two years of being selected. The 2018 training will be June 6-7 at the Ralph A. MacMullan Conference Center in Roscommon. Volunteers must agree to a background check, must be at least 18 and may not be DNR employees. Some Michigan campgrounds included are Cheboygan State Park, Aloha State Park, Indian Lake State Park, Pinckney Recreation Area, Warren Dunes State Park, Waterloo Recreation Area, plus much more. If you are an outdoor enthusiast, avid camper, backpacker or of the like, this opportunity can can allow you to meet new people, learn about the campgrounds in Michigan, and offer a new experience away from home next camping season.
