BLOOMINGTON — Hunting and fishing fanatics of all ages searched for the newest outdoor equipment and shared tales at The Pantagraph’s Fish and Feather Expo. The event took place at the Interstate Center in Bloomington, Illinois. Seven-year-old Serenity Reilam of Pontiac tried her best at casting a fishing pole across an aisle. “I go fishing sometimes,” said Serenity. “I like doing things outside with my family because it’s fun to spend time with them.” Her aunt and uncle, Charmaine Badenhorst and David Schultz of Bloomington, joined Serenity at the show.
Writer Julia Evelsizer relays in her article: “Every year we go fishing and hunting and camping as a family,” said Badenhorst. “That’s important for her because she’s so young. Everyone spends too much time inside, especially kids. It’s better to get some fresh air and have fun outside.” Sponsored in part by Lake Bloomington Marine, around 3,000 people were expected to attend the show filled with outdoor activities all weekend. More than 80 vendors feature associations connected to Midwest hunting, fishing, resorts, lodges, bait and tackle and outdoor clubs. “They want to increase their fishing and hunting skills while checking out new technology and outdoor gear. It’s a very supportive community and people are willing to pass their knowledge around," said Jonell Kehias, Pantagraph marketing/retention director. June and Terry Middlebrooks of Bloomington brought their grandson Marcus Washbrun, 6, to test his skills at shooting a bow and arrow. “We like fishing and hunting and during fishing season and hunting season we wanted to bring him so he could get a taste of that experience,” said June Middlebrooks. “I like to see what’s newer on the market or find something I don’t have at home,” said Terry Middlebrooks.
