News From The Road: Glass Blower Embraces The Van Life
Leafly Reports On Nomad Jimi Cummins Who Is In His Fourth Year Of A Far-Out Adventure In A Westfalia Vanagon While Making Signature Glass
Not able to conform to the traditional lifestyle of modern society? A man name Jimi Cummins felt just this way. During a Grateful Dead concert, Jimi met Bob Snodgrass, a legend in glass art, and that moment changed his life. Snodgrass' lifestyle - touring with The Dead - would captivate Cummins’s imagination, motivating him to purchase an RV nearly a decade later and leave society behind. Cummins, a Santa Cruz native, eventually purchased a 1986 Volkswagen Westfalia Vanagon and left his home in 2013. He successfully began a business for blowing glass along the way.
Leafly writer David Bienenstock relays in his article: "The day he first saw the RV he would travel the US in, Cummins had just read an article about Jack Kerouac in the local paper, and then there it was—a 30-foot RV C-Class—for sale directly across the street from this very spot." On the road, Cummins began to see both his glass and his lifestyle as works of art, and by 2014 he had developed his signature line of kraken pipes. Cummins' #vanlife journey is documented on his Instagram and other social media accounts.
