News Blip: Twitter Handles To Remember While On The Road
NY Times Reports On Organizations's Social Media Outlets That Travelers, Like RVers, Should Follow For Emergency Situations & Info
Social media can now be a quick way for individuals to learn of current news on natural disasters, health issues, traffic, transportation, weather, etc. In an emergency situation on the road, internet may not be readily available. NY Times gives the names of certain news, federal and/or business organizations that inform the public on either important information regarding what to do in drastic situations or information that will save the consumer a headache when trying to get where they need to go.
NY Times writer Stephanie Rosenbloom relates in her article: "As Hurricane Maria neared the Caribbean this week, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) used Twitter to disseminate shelter information." The key to using Twitter and Facebook in travel emergencies is choosing the right people, groups and companies to follow. Misinformation is common. For example, if you want to get the accurate and up-to-date news on hurricane weather during a cross country trip, you can follow the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Weather Service Twitter account - @NWS.
