Travel+Leisure Reports On Transfer Of Private Coastal Property To The County For Public Uses, Such As Beach Camping, BBQs & Overnight Cabin Stays
Beach-goers will soon have a brand new stretch of seaside to explore thanks to a landmark decision by the state’s coastal commission. Santa Barbara County has been granted a private coastal property, once known as Bixby Ranch, by the California Coastal Commission in a unanimous decision early November. The 36-acre property has been closed to public use for more than 100 years, as it was being used by the landowners. The land, which is about 150 miles north of Los Angeles, is combined with a mile-long stretch of beach.
According to Stacy Leasca from Travel + Leisure: "A settlement was reached after it was discovered that the current landowners installed dozens of water wells throughout the property and made other land developments without the proper permits." Special to the area is the great recreational opportunities that can now be enjoyed by campers, RVers, or families. To get people outside, it was reported by the Associated Press that the area has campsites and a handful of cabins for overnight stays, as well as a small market and grill nearby. Beach camping seems to be like a soothing getaway just right for this coastal paradise.
