News Blip: Montana Spending Budget Not Cutting It
The Missoulian Reports On The 2018 Proposed Budget In Regards To The Outdoor Industry In Montana And Its Likely Effects Of Damaging The Economy
Montana Senator is suspicious of national proposed budget plan for 2018 as it could be detrimental to the economy, particularly Montana's outdoor industry. Recommendations for spending would in effect close outdoor rec trails, shut down visitor centers and lock up public lands in the area. In addition, many national park employees would lose jobs.
Missoulian writer Rob Chaney relays in his article: "In Montana, that outdoor industry supports 64,000 jobs and contributes about $6 billion to the annual economy." To give a more detailed description on the numbers being mulled over, the Forest Service could lose about $880 million compared to its 2017 funding in Trump’s proposed $4.7 billion budget plan. The overall Interior budget faces a 13 percent reduction to $10.6 billion.
