News Blip: "Housing Is A Basic Need And A Human Right"
Willamette Week Reports On The Lift Of Portland's Ban Of Tiny Homes & RVs Parked On Private Property Effective Immediately
There has been much debate across the nation as to where RVs or mobile homes should park. It's a classic "do what's best for me" scenario. Those in motorhomes have the right to live in them and would like to park conveniently, but those who do not would rather not have the large vehicles in the streets or in their way (generally speaking). n the words of Portland's City Commissioner Chloe Eudaly, housing is a basic need and human right for all. Therefore, in a major change to Portland housing policy, she announced last month that the city will allow overnight RV camping and tiny homes on wheels, as long as they're parked on private property.
Willamette Week writer Rachel Monahan relates in her article: "The city has previously allowed camping in nonprofit and church parking lots. But Eudaly's proposed policy will allow people up to park three tiny houses or RVs in parking lots of businesses, religious institutions and government buildings, according to the draft proposal, as well as one vehicle in the parking spot of private residences." Unlike Eugene, Oregon's city code, Portland's policy does not allow tent camping freely within the city.
