News Blip: DIY Van Conversion
Curbed Reports On The DIY Sensation For Vanlifers Wanting To Avoid High Costs Of Full Service, Custom Van Renovation For Their Mobile Home
On the side of vanlifers, we have more millennials and younger who have chose to travel and live in converted vans, such as a Mercedes Sprinter or a Ford Transit bought from a car dealership, instead of shelling out the uppers of $100,000 for larger, new motorhomes. The conversion makes it possible for them to live inside. The recent popularity of adventure vans has also inspired established RV companies to dive into the world of Class B vans and campers.
However, there is a dilemma. Some conversions can cost about the same to buy a Class C or A motorhome as is. Curbed writer Megan Barber relays in her article: "Custom outfitters like Outside Van or Sportsmobile often charge over $100,000 for conversions. Do most of the work yourself and you can have a sweet van at a fraction of the price." She suggests affordable off-the-shelf van conversion set if your DIY plans are thwarted by your lack of skill sets! Adventure Wagon’s kits include the most important elements to convert your 144-inch or 170-inch wheelbase Mercedes Sprinter into a camper. Each DIY kit from the company can costs between $13,800 and $14,800, and features thermal insulation, fabric wall paneling, marine-grade ceiling LED lights, two remote-controlled ceiling fans, and an electrical harness fuse box and wiring kit.
