Central Oregon’s Bend Parks & Recreation has a variety of summer camps kids can choose from. Some of the camps include theatre, archery, unicylcling, and stunt training. One of the theatre camps, “Art of Theatre”, has their students involved in different activities. The kids performed a theatrical mishmash of call-and-response, mirror work and pantomiming. “With Miss Lovely [Lisa Elrod, camp instructor], we’re a family; we’re not just part in a play. I see them grow,” Albarran, 13, said.
Another camp, the Hollywood stunt training camp, taught by martial arts instructor Jimmy offers kids knowledge on fake fighting techniques and how to safely free-fall and flip from three different heights onto crash pads. “It’s fun to show kids some real footage of me fake fighting,” he said. “It lets kids build their own creativity and not hold back their imagination.”
