Christian Thomas, 9, Hiked Three Of The Longest Hiking Trails In The U.S. Making Him The Youngest Person to Complete Such An Adventurous Feat
September 18 marked the day that nine-year-old Christian Thomas completed a 1,200 mile hike o complete a set of trials that no other kid has done. He stood in front of Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park with his parents, Andrea Rego and Dion Pagonis to celebrate the accomplishment. Thomas was so proud of finishing the Continental Divide Trail, and on September 30, the American Long-Distance Hiking Association- West recognized Thomas as a triple-crowner at an annual award ceremony held by the organization.
Outside reporter Johnathan Olivier gives a background on the backpacker in his article: "Thomas was five when he and Pagonis started hiking the 2,189-mile Appalachian Trail. The family planned a short section hike going north, starting at Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, in April 2013." After the family moved to Crested Butte, Colorado, the goal was a lifestyle change, one that included a focus on health and being outdoors.
