EVANS COUNTY, Ga. - WTOC, an outlet for local news, reports that the new RV campground at the Evans County Public Fishing Area (PFA) is set to open Oct. 3, 2019. The $2 million project begun in 2017 will make Evans the first PFA in Georgia to offer an RV campground to guests. Similar to campgrounds in Georgia state parks, the camping area will initially offer 25 sites with hookups for power, water, and sewer for RV and tent camping, plus a comfort station with showers. The new construction also includes a conference center for groups of up to 80 people.
The Evans County PFA, operated by the fisheries program of the DNR Wildlife Resources Division, is about eight miles east of Claxton and includes three stocked fishing lakes, a boat ramp, fishing docks, nature trails, an archery range, and a canoe launch. Waterfowl hunts are offered in season. About 5,000 anglers fish at the PFA annually, and an additional 4,000 people visit. “This is our first foray into RV camping, but we’re looking forward to the opportunity to see what we can provide for the anglers and the visitors here in the area,” DNR Chief of Fisheries John Biagi said in a statement.
