News Release:
New Rules for Camping at Zion National ParkWatchman Campground and Zion National Park - South Campground Have Revised Their Reservation Systems For Visitors Looking To Stay Near Utah’s Oldest And One of The Busiest National Parks.
Zion, Utah’s oldest national park and one of the busiest, is changing the reservation system this year for two of its campgrounds. Beginning March 1, the Watchman and South campgrounds, both near the park’s south entrance, now require reservations year-round. Previously the campgrounds were available by reservation only during the peak season of March through October.
The change is intended to eliminate the long lines of campers waiting in line, sometimes overnight, for a spot to open. Rangers reported backups of up to 400 cars. Often all campsites in the park are occupied by mid-morning. Zion has a third campground, Lava Point, about a 1-hour drive from Zion Canyon on the Kolob Terrace Road in the northwest corner of the park. No reservations are accepted for its sites. Reservations for campsites at Watchman and South campgrounds in Zion National Park can be made up to six months prior to your arrival date online or by phone.
