WOOD RIVER, Neb. - The Independent, a news outlet in central Nebraska, reports on a new RV campground which opened this year just off I-80 at exit 300. Developed by the four partners of the Exit 300 LLC, the Firefly Meadows RV Park and Campground fills a need for accommodations for RVs and campers in Central Nebraska, according to John Myers, one of the partners. Located on the site of an old hotel, the campground faced challenges from severe weather and flooding this spring. Although Exit 300 closed on the 12-acre property on Jan. 1, “we couldn’t start on it until March because of frozen ground and then the flood,” Myers told the Independent. “We opened a few sites in May and got the rest of the sites up and running in June.”
Currently, Firefly Meadows offers 30 campsites with 21 full hookups, with 30- and 50-amp service, and the rest with water and electric. A playground and basketball court as well as an office and camp store are among the amenities, with a pond stocked with fish on the horizon. Myers and his partners are renovating some of the remaining motel rooms for visitors as well, and plan to build several retro cabins and have remodeled retro RVs and giant tents available for “glamping.” The star of the Firefly Meadows show, however, is its state-of-the-art bathhouse equipped with private shower rooms, rainfall shower heads and tile floors that can be heated or cooled according to the weather. “We have one of the nicest bathhouses in the state,” Myers said. “Our customers are loving it.”
