WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Tex. â Local news outlet Patch reports that county officials gathered for the groundbreaking of a new county park located on more than 1,000 acres along the South Fork of the San Gabriel River. River Ranch County Park will be the fifth county park in the county nicknamed Wilco, occupying land purchased in 2008 with more than $10.6 million of park bonds approved by voters. The property sits between Leander and Liberty Hill, offering stunning views of Texas hill country. Williamson County is located in central east Texas near Austin.
"The goal of River Ranch Park is to have more of a state park feel. One where you can be in parts of it and feel alone in nature," Williamson County Precinct 2 Commissioner Cynthia Long said at the groundbreaking. Phase One of the construction, scheduled for completion in 2020, will include water and electric RV campsites, as well as hike-in primitive sites, a wastewater dump station, park headquarters, 10 to 12 miles of hiking and equestrian trails, and a day use area with picnic tables, playgrounds, pavilions, and restrooms.
