GRAFTON, Ill. - A Pere Marquette State Park campground has shut down and plans to stay that way for about six months to finish refurbishment and upgrades. The campground is expected to be completely closed for about 155 days, and reopen in July or August, depending on when the actual work starts. While work is primarily in the RV campground, it will also close the tent camping areas and the campground picnic shelters. As quoted in an article written by Journal-Courier staff writer Scott Cousins Hearst, site superintendent Chris Hespen says, "The upgrade is long overdue, and I’m excited we’re able to provide that in the region. But there’s no good time to renovate a 365-calendar day campground.” The $1 million project will include a major upgrade for electrical and water services, an additional watering and grey- and black-water dump station, and general upgrades to the 80-site facility. Most sites are now set up for 30- and 20-amp service. The renovation will add 50-amp service to all of those sites.
