SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Basecamp Hospitality announced a partnership with REI to host a series of “Basecamp Basics” classes at 15 state and national parks across the western U.S. where Basecamp manages concessions. The pilot program launches June 23-24, during National Camping Month, at Lake Camanche in Ione, California, about two hours from the San Francisco Bay and Lake Tahoe areas and one hour from Sacramento. The program will continue at Lake Gregory, Angel Island and Lake Chabot in California in 2019, and expand to Silver Falls, Katherine Landing at Lake Mohave, Big Basin and others in 2020.
Led by knowledgeable instructors, the classes will teach new campers skills including pitching a tent, kayaking, campfire cooking, fishing basics and more. “We're aiming to make it easy and fun for beginners to learn about camping so they can gain confidence and create incredible memories they'll talk about their whole lives,” Basecamp Hospitality CEO and Chairman John Koeberer said in a press release. “The goal is to create new ambassadors for camping that will inspire other beginners to get out there and create their own adventures.”
Groups of up to four who rent a tent site, or participate in the Rent My Tent program, can sign up for the pilot program. Find out more on the Lake Camanche website.
