The Pioneer Press, a news outlet in Minnesota, reports that Washington County’s most popular park, the Lake Elmo Regional Park Reserve, located east of St. Paul, will be getting a $1.7 million upgrade to its infrastructure this fall. The entire electrical system within the campground will be replaced, with 50 amp hook-ups added at 57 sites and 30-amp at 23 sites, as well as electrical fixture upgrades in the restroom and shower buildings. Power shortages have been a continuing problem at the park. Water lines in the campground will also be replaced, according to Sandy Breuer, Washington County’s parks director, and 56 water hook-ups will be added to the existing four.
Breur said that other improvements will include a new playground in the campground and upgrades to the Eagle Point trail, a turf 4-mile trail used by hikers, bikers and cross-country skiers that runs around Eagle Point Lake. New drainage culverts along the trail will eliminate frequent flooding issues. A new parking lot will accommodate trail users, the existing snowshoe shed will be torn down and a new trailhead building added. Proceeds from the county’s bond sale, state sales tax and Metropolitan Council bonds are being used to fund the Lake Elmo Regional Park Reserve Improvement Project. The project is expected to be completed in January 2020.
Full details of the project are available on the Washington County website.
