The recent Overland Expo West demonstrates that there are plenty of van campers willing to follow the call of adventure well off the beaten path. The Overland Expo West took place May 18-20 in Flagstaff, Arizona. It is the premier overlanding event in the world, a professional-level camping trade show that brings together in one place all the camping vehicle and motorcycle equipment and services you need to get outfitted and get going. This year's Overland Expo featured a dynamic event experience with a blend of tradeshow and educational opportunities, making it the most popular overlanding show in the Western Hemisphere, and most unique in the world.
According to C.C. Weiss from New Atlas, "The van life movement has been gaining momentum for years, but it seems to have reached a fever pitch. Over the past six months or so, we've been seeing new U.S. market van converters pop up virtually every week." Overland camper vans really picked up at the 2018 Overland Expo West show where they left off last year. Weiss reports that it seemed there was a conversion van brand associate or aftermarket van parts specialist (or three or four) down every aisle of the expo at Ft. Tuthill County Park in Flagstaff. From 70s-era conversions, to all-new Sprinters and Transits filled with gorgeous woodwork, and from super-compact four-sleepers, to 4WD Winnebagos, the show had a little something for every van lifer and lover.
